About Us...
Little Ants was started officially in August of 2002. We began tossing the idea of the website and store around while we were living in Denmark and our oldest was just a few months old. We sat at the outdoor jazz festival and laid out some basic plans. Our original goal was two-fold, one was to share the great things we have found and have worked for our family and the other was to help families exist within their means on a single family income. Our store started primarily as cloth diapers, baby carriers and beautiful Haba wooden toys (which we were introduced to by a Portuguese woman that gave Alexander a Ring Ding as a new baby gift). We spent so much time researching all of these items because they were so hard to find and uncommon at the time that we thought we would share the fruits of our efforts with others.
The second goal of Little Ants has always been to help families live within
the means they have. We focus on quality and sustainability that will last
for generations and save your family money in the long run. We also hope
to start offering financial courses at the store in the coming months. One
of the first things we ever wrote when getting the store started was an
article on financial maximization (basically how to make your money stretch
the furthest so you have time for those that are the most important to you).
We started our family on a graduation student income and after 6 years and
3 kids later, Brandon finished his PhD with our family debt free and Katie
having stayed home the entire time.
In 2009 just before the birth of our 4th boy we opened the brick and mortar
storefront that had been Katie’s dream for 6 years. The kids come with to
the building everyday (consider yourself warned). We still enjoy working
and growing side by side while Brandon works at USI to provide income and
food for our family. Little Ants has been a calling and a mission in life
to help bring the American family back together and to simplify our lives
while living closer to the way nature originally intended. This includes
everything from Breastfeeding groups to floors without harmful chemicals
and almost everything in between.
We thank you for taking time to visit us and are always interested in you sharing your ideas, concerns and talents (see our calendar for sharing talents).
Have a lovely day,
Katie & Brandon Field w/ 4 cute boys & 1 girl: Alexander, Dominic,
Xavier, Damien and Kateri
